Meow!

July 30th, 2010 by TirNua Sarah Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Due to the overwhelming influx of stray kittens we have received as a result of the displacement of so many households in the gulf and fertile plains oil disasters, we have opened up a Pet Adoption store.

You can now adopt kittens for the nominal price of 249 Tau which includes a free pet bed!

We would like to highlight the point that owning a new kitten is a big responsibility though. These poor abandoned kittens have had a rough go of it and will need a lot of care and nurturing. They will want to be fed at least twice a day and to be petted as often as possible. They love the attention!

You can purchase milk in baby bottles in the Pet Adoptions store under the Pet Accessories tab. Also note that you will need to clean their pet bed when it gets dirty. If you neglect your kitten it will begin to get unhappy and if you neglect it for over 4 or 5 days it will probably run away!

Hopefully you will take good care of your kitten and it will grow into a happy, well-adjusted adult cat!

Please note that if your Emotional Value is too low you will not be able to take care of your kitten! So, make sure you eat a lot of strawberries and salads high in Vitamin E.

Other miscellaneous updates:

  • Floating panels in the lots handle differently from this week: ‘click icon’ to minimize; when open drag with title bar
  • Feeds can be sorted by tops news or date - click sort at top of panel to toggle
  • windmill improvements
    • checks lot speed on lot load and adjust accordingly
    • fixed bug that was not correctly handling adjustments.
    • tuned the large windmill to accommodate a larger range.
  • Made the printer and the scanner for resident use only. added a line to the tooltip about it. We noticed that non-residents were able to use the kiln and sewing machines but we plan to change that next week similarly.
  • Store mini update: moved the regular barbeques to food category from decoration
  • Finally, we think we’ve fixed the problem of chat text being deleted when a new feed bubble would pop up…

Rig Explosion Bursts Pipeline in TirNua

July 24th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Major Oil Explosion has Hit TirNua

The leak from the explosion which occurred sometime yesterday, looks to be the size of China. Authorities are investigating the exact location of the explosion which has gravely impacted the plateau of the fertile plains region. Emergency response teams have been successful so far at containing the leak from hitting the lake.

In order to see this disaster on the map you will need to make sure to be in the Environment Mode on the map.

The response teams are calling for as many volunteers as possible to come help save the wildlife and orchards. Many farmers are gravely concerned as to how this will effect the harvesting of fruit crops this year.

Experts have not been able to make a specific statement on what the potential damages to crops will be yet. All they are saying at this point, is “there was an outpouring of volunteers who came together to save the gulf region after last week’s oil spill. The support and help was tremendous, we are hoping to see the same kind of support here in the fertile plains.”

Authorities, are encouraging those who find birds to place them in their inventory and take them to one of the rescue sites springing up to help save the wildlife. The oiled birds specifically will need cleaning in order to save them.

The more birds rescued on a lot the better the ground environmental reading for that lot will be and eventually it will be restored to its pre-oil leak state.

So, please come help save the birds and the environment!

Track & Monitor Your Carbon Footprint

July 23rd, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Tool to Manage Carbon Footprint

We have a new tool for you to track and monitor your CFP on a day to day basis. On the persona web page, a tab has been added for CFP.

Here you will see your daily and monthly history as well has your base and accumulated CFP on objects you own. To find out more about how base and accumulated CFP are calculated refer to the help panel and search for Carbon Footprint (read about new feature below).

Everyone can see everyone’s daily and monthly readings but only each individual will see their own object CFP. The CFP panel will display which objects you own that have the best and the worst CFP.

No More Overwatering Plants

Have you been finding yourself locking up your home to prevent newbies from over watering your plants and crops and killing them on you?

Well, fret no more, you no longer need to worry about yourself or anyone else killing your plants by over watering them. They can’t be over watered! Of course, your plants will still die if they are not cared for by not watering on time.

We are testing this out to see if this helps the social scene in TirNua. We realized this might be one of the reasons so many lots are closed to the public. We are looking for ways to make TirNua more social and as usual we are looking to our players for feedback and other suggestions on this topic.

Search Help Topics on Help Panel

Search on any word or topic for search results to be displayed.

Fixes/Updates

  1. Timing on the Boiler has been tuned. Charging batteries will be considerable quicker.
  2. Create feeds on your friend’s feed stream. Design it on the persona web. Design your own feeds as well.

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deal of the week.

Oil Spill in the Gulf

July 16th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Save Our Oiled Seabirds - Help Rectify these Creatures Misfortune with Mankind

An oil slick from a massive spill in the gulf has begun to wash ashore along the coast in the TirNua Kitchen Zone.

To see this is on the map make sure to be in the Environment Mode on the map.

Homes and wildlife have been gravely impacted by the disaster. If you live in the impacted area, your background will be damaged and polluted. Here are before and after shots of one such lot.

Lot in the spill

These blackened birds flying around your lot will now land on your lot and you can help with the rescue and rehabilitation efforts by cleaning the oiled birds. Just take them to the cleaning station and select the ‘clean bird’ interaction.

The cleaning station can be obtained from the TirNua Wildlife Preservation Society Store on the Shopping Tab.

If you find an oiled bird on one of your lots and you don’t have the cleaning station or skills to clean the bird, place it in your inventory.

You will encounter many volunteers, environmental and restoration groups that will be banding together to return the gulf to its previous splendor. These folks will want to save your birds for you. Many sick oiled birds will be found far from the oil slick.

The more birds rescued on visibly polluted lots the better the water environmental reading for that lot will be and eventually it will be restored to its pre-oil spill state.

After you clean a bird, an oil splat will remain on your lot. To clean this up, toggle on the ‘Recycle’ button on the menu bar and then select the ‘Send to be Recycled’ interaction on the oil splat.

There are some personal benefits to your efforts to save the birds and environment. Your emotional energy capacity and good carbon score will increase for each bird cleaned. Additionally, you will earn this Good Carbon Badge for cleaning your first bird.

New Designer Badge available for creating Rare Barbeques.

Getting Rid of Toxic

From now on, when you go to work and cross the finish line at the job site you will remove 1 toxic, if you are a Resident. This is an excellent way to rid yourself of toxic components and help your CFP. It is important to know that you will need to have the toxic bins in your inventory when you cross the finish line. One unit will be removed at this time. Crossing the finish line at work will no longer take 1 unit of trash from you. To rid yourself of trash, you will need to take it to a recycling station.

Check Box added to the Inventory Panel to toggle size of inventory icons.

Fixes/Updates

  1. You can set the sale price on the BBQ for the corn on the cob
  2. Persona snapshot - you no longer need to change clothes first for it to work
  3. Rotation slider bar on Custom Content tab is no longer off the bottom of the screen
  4. The printer associates the feed and the credit for the badge to the actor and not the owner

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deal of the week.
Enjoy!

Dress Me Updates

July 10th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Dress Me Panel Changes

  1. The Dress Me tab has been removed. To simplify the UI, we are consolidating functionality to be done on the lot. Since changing clothes and accessories can now be done any lot by just dragging them on or off your persona to your inventory, we no longer need the Dress Me tab.
  2. Custom Content (from the Dress Me tab) has been moved to the Shopping tab now. You will find it as a sub-tab there along with the Gift Store.
  3. Persona Settings has been moved to the Preferences tab under the My Stuff tab. This is where you can switch between your personas, switch between bought persona names, buy persona names and update your persona description.

Persona Snapshot now added to the Lot Snapshot button - take your own snapshot of your persona anytime you like, just like you can do for your lot. Along with headshots you can take full-body shots. These snapshots are displayed on the Persona Web and in the Visitors Floating Panel. To take a snapshot use the camera icon button on the menu bar. Show off your new persona snapshot on Facebook or Twitter too! Note: you may have to change your clothes the first time you use this feature.

Energy Changes

  1. Tuned the CFP (Carbon Footprint) for burning. Burning wood produces more CFP then burning oil and oil produces more CFP then biofuel does.
  2. Added a new tank that holds oil only. Everyone that currently owned the green Bio-fuel
Storage Tank has been gifted the new blue Oil Storage Tank
  3. The large Boiler now uses biofuel, oil and wood directly.

Fixes/Other Updates

  1. Everyone will be presented with the New User Albums the first time they log in (only once). We will be adding more of these shortly. They are accessible for viewing anytime via the Help tab.
  2. Bird sounds remain muted when mute button is on even after leaving lot.
  3. Rare Barbeques can be sold in Player Stores, Gifted and Secure Traded but they are not scannable (sorry!)
  4. Can enter lot after recycling flower pots.
  5. Feeds: friends feeds are ordered by date now.
  6. When changing your appearance on your lot, your persona will no longer ‘drop back in’.

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deal of the week.
Enjoy!

Barbeque Up Some Corn for the 4th!

July 3rd, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Get out your barbeque grills and cook yourself up some corn on the cob to celebrate the 4th with. That’s right the barbeques are usable now! Just add some wood and corn and off you go. Mind you, as the wood burns it will emit CFP but the corn you eat will give you an incredible boost in your Physical Value (Pv).

One bundle of wood will burn for about 10 minutes and you can add more corn as the wood is still burning but all the previous corn must be eaten before you can cook some more. Each bushel of corn (8 cobs) will take about 2 minutes to cook.

Buy one of these BBQs from the Decoration Store or dig your old one out of your inventory - all existing BBQs in the world cook corn now.

Look for these cool colors coming soon to the Player Stores as our manufacturers out there start rolling them out from their printers. These are the rares that only can be printed.

We created these objects for our New Player Startup Kits but anybody can purchase them in the Energy Store. The Wood Burning Generator is for New Players who select the ‘Easy’ mode of gameplay and the Soil Bio-fuel Generator is for those who select the ‘Medium’ mode. The hand crank will continue to be given to those opting for the ‘Hard’ mode of gameplay.

Other

  1. New Startup Photo Albums for new Players. Now when a new player comes into the game, these photo albums will appear whereby the player can thumb through them to quickly grasp what to do. These Photo Albums will be available on the Help Tab soon.
  2. Friends Feed Tab - your friend’s feeds have been added to the Feed Floater Panel
  3. Live updates for My Feeds and My Friend’s Feeds. You probably have noticed these already and that you can comment on them.

Fixes

  1. Player store listings are ranked by resident rating vs. object count now
  2. Facebook frame bug - is now working again and should work for new players
  3. Fixed teleporter bug - all players on the lot would be magically whisked away whenever anyone clicked on a lot deed or roommate key and selected the goto lot action.

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deal of the week.

To our American TirNuans, Happy 4th of July!

    Carbon Footprint Issues Fixed

June 22nd, 2010 by Tirnua Larry Leave a comment Share on Facebook

This past weekend I discovered a bug that was causing the display of Carbon Footprint scores to be incorrect. In many case it was showing Good Carbon when in actuality you had Bad Carbon and vice versa. I’ve fixed the bug but as a result many of you were very upset to discover that your Good Carbon Score was actually a Bad Carbon Score. I am very sorry about the mix up. Here are a few pointers on how to improve your Carbon Footprint so you can try to get back to a Good Carbon Score.

What you can do to improve your Carbon Footprint

Growing and maintaining live plants on a lot.

Trees will improve your Carbon Footprint more than flowers.

Recycle your trash in Recycle Stations.

Charge your batteries using clean energy sources such as treadmills and windmills.

If you have to use boilers, burn bio-fuel rather than oil.

Create bio-fuel from plants grown with no Fertilizer or Super Grow

Create objects using the 3d Printers, Sewing Machines, and Kilns using clean energy and your recycled goods

Purchase goods from other users who have printed/sewed/kilned them using recycled goods and clean energy.

Note: You can see the Carbon Footprint of any object before purchasing it by hovering over it.

What you can do to worsen your Carbon Footprint (and pollute the environment)

Use fertilizer and Super Grow on your plants.

Charge batteries using dirty energy such as boilers burning oil.

Leave trash and toxic lying around.

    Don’t use recycled products.

In the coming weeks I will be releasing some new UI features allowing you to see better how exactly your lifestyle is affecting your Carbon Footprint.

Dad’s Dressing Up for Father’s Day

June 18th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Be sure to Dress up Dad with on of these New Shirts this Father’s Day
Find these shirts for sale in the men’s clothing store.

    Happy Father’s Day!!!

    Dress Me on Lot!

You no longer need to go to the Dress Me Tab in order to change your outfit, now all you need to do is just drag items from your inventory and drop them onto your persona. It is as simple as that. For the time being, you need to be on your own lot to change your outfit. This is just Phase 1 of this feature, expect more to come in the upcoming weeks as we fine tune it.

    Inventory Categories

Yes, that is correct, we now have tabs for your inventory sorted by category! We know how long some of you have waited for this - no more long searches for that particular item you think you might have in your inventory. Yay!

New Player Startup Kits - in an attempt to get new players to quickly grasp what TirNua is all about we have implemented a ‘Startup Kit Selector’ whereby new players are given the option to select from 3 modes: easy, medium or hard. Easy gets there quicker but has consequences in terms of ‘bad’ carbon footprint whereby ‘hard’ takes longer but you will start out ‘More Green’.

    Other

    1. EMP Energy Values are displayed in the tooltip in the Visitor Panel In-game. We removed the EMP numbers from the persona tooltip last week but you can still find the numerical values here.

    2. More Energy Activity Badges
      1. Oil Industry Professional
      2. Bio-energy Producer
      3. Biofuel Explorer
    3. New Look to the Scroll Bars
    4. New Look to Object Tooltips In-game
    5. Good Carbon Scores display as negative numbers
    6. Batteries & Battery Depot show CFP charge
    7. Faster Charging on Windmills - tuned the formula on the windmills so they will charge a bit faster. Let us know what you think.

    Fixes

    1. Recycle batteries in the depot is working
    2. Buying/selling energy causing huge CFP

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deal of the week.
    Enjoy!

It’s Summer Time - Get the Kids and Get the Sprinkler On

June 11th, 2010 by TirNua Audrey Leave a comment Share on Facebook

Water Sprinklers - Huge Time Saver for Gardeners out there!

Place this object on your lot and you will be able to water the plants on the adjacent tiles all once with just one interaction! It is possible to water up to 9 plants with each sprinkler.

You can find the object for sale in the Gardening Store or in the V.I.P. Store if you are a resident.

    New and Improved Lot Search

  • Top Rated searches on the World Map are more prominent now.
  • The “Open Lots” search will now only return search results of those lots that the caller can actually enter. If the lot is public everyone will see it in the search or if you are a resident, roommate or a friend of someone with an open lot - you will be able to see their lot in the search results. No more going to an open lot from the open lot search only to find out you can’t enter the lot because it is locked.
  • All “Top Rated …” searches only include public lots. This means the lot must be open to the public in order for it to be included in the search results. To do this, the entry permissions have to be set to Public and anyone can enter the lot unless they are blocked.

  • Badges, Badges, Badges Galore and… more on the way!

  • New Score Types: Gamer & Designer score types are new and we renamed Recruiter to Evangelist
  • 5 new Designer activity badges - print various rares
  • 3 new Energy activity badges - 1 for each level of oil
  • 2 new Gamer activity badges - 1 for finishing basic UI quest and 1 for finishing 3 UI quests (for newbies only)
  • 18 new top score category badges have been added; 6 per evangelist, designer and gamer
  • To see all these badges go to the ‘My Stuff” tab and the Badges sub-tab. Mouse over the badges to see tooltips or double click on them for the specific details on each badge.
  • Added a badge count and badge categories in the persona web search and in the visitor tool tip
  • Other

    1. The Persona web has been updated to use tabs and has a more compact layout.
    2. A new and improved EMP display - we simplified the UI for the EMP display. The bar inside the battery image reflects your current value while the darker battery image is your capacity.
    3. Tool tip display of the Base Carbon Footprint of items for sale in both TirNua and User Stores
    4. Groups: add tab to info/manage dialog to show all totems and their competition.

    Fixes

    1. Changed the CFP Scores to be in the same units (KGs) as in the rest of the game
    2. Abandon lot process
    3. Weather is now a 20 second event that happens every 5 minutes
    4. Disallow others to continue in-progress scan jobs, fixed scanners getting stuck (we hope!)
    5. Number of fruits per day is correct now
    6. Oil donkey - now requires drilling on one of the deposits per lot

As usual don’t forget to check out the VIP Store for the hot deal of the week.
    Enjoy!
