A Bird in the Hand

Postby YukonSam_14677414 » July 17th, 2010, 9:58 am

I'm a brand new player, just started last night. I was at the bird cleaning station when my avatar started to make a beeline for somebody else's bird. I cancelled the action, because flipping someone's bird strikes me as rude, but not before he got it in the basket. Now I'm stuck with a bird in a basket that I can't get rid of, and even doing other animations won't make it go away. Any thoughts on how to scrape this oily gull off my hand?

On another note -- I went to bed last night with -4 carbon and woke up this morning with over 2700. Is that the normal accumulation from my newbie 'gifts'? I spend last night mostly gardening, cleaning gulls, and indulging in a little video poker. I wasn't pouring supergro over my plants, slashing and burning rainforest, or indulging in deep water oil exploration in sensitive ecosystems. If that's the way the system is supposed to work.... it seems very punitive for new players. Maybe a little note explaining where all that carbon came from would be in order.

Welcome Sam :)

Did you try relogging to get rid of the basket?
When I get things stuck that way, they usually disappear when I relog.

About your carbon scores:
I did notice that when I logged into the game with a toon I hadn't used at all, she had 0 cfp to start with.
Then between 2 and 3 am pacific time, the cfp is usually calculated. At that point the objects the toon owns are counted too I guess.

I'll check some more if 2700 is reasonable, but you can probably assume that it's correct.

How cfp works "roughly":
  • Every item you own has a Base cfp
  • Some items have accumulating "bad" cfp, that rises every day or upon use (example: trash, toxic, boilers)
  • Some items have accumulating "good" cfp, that rises every day or upon use (example: flowers, trees, bird cleaning station)
  • If you add all this together you get your total carbon footprint

So you would have received a bit of (Base) carbon footprint from the items you were given on your first day, the first night it got calculated.
The more objects you buy over time, the higher your footprint on the world will be. Those items have had a footprint on the world when they were created. But if you get rid of those items the cfp goes away with the object.
The accumulated values always stay with you though.
So what you can do is to grow some plants and let those start accumulating good cfp for you. You can also try not to buy items with high cfp, aim for items people have made themselves instead of Tirnua bought items. If you get any trash, try to run that in somebody's trash machine so it doesn't start accumulating.

2700 isn't that much though so if you grow a few plants and trees the accumulated goodness you get from them daily, will soon fix that.

Thanks. Yes, the bird had flown when I relogged. And I'm plugging away at that carbon score.
